32nd annual "Instead of Football" Regatta

Every January 1, a lot of Oriental gets out on the water – an alternative to say, watching football on TV . The Instead of Football Regatta starts out from Oriental Marker #1 at noon on New Year’s Day, Sunday January 1, 2026. Warning horn at 11:55a.

Marks are: Adams Creek #1, Garbacon #7, finish at Oriental #1 (SC1).  Sailing direction/course change announced on Channel 72 prior to start.

The Regatta’s a great way to take in the first day of the year. You can sail, you can motor. No one’s really keeping score. Well, most aren’t. 

The mandatory (mandatory should you wish to eat) Skippers’ Meeting is after the race at 1500hrs at The Silos (race cancelled or not). 

You are encouraged to bring a small nautical or fun wrapped gift – re-gifting is perfectly acceptable – for the drawings.
